Sitlington Outstanding Plant and Soil Sciences Student Scholarship
Sitlington Outstanding Plant and Soil Sciences Student Scholarship is a Centennial Scholarship. Walter “Bill” Sitlington was an only child who lived most of his life on the family farm with his parents. They were hard working, frugal, Oklahoma County farmers. In the 1940’s, oil was discovered on the Sitlington property and they used the proceeds to buy more land. They raised crops and had large herds of cattle and sheep. They also managed and invested their money wisely. Prior to his death in 1996, Sitlington anonymously donated $2.3 million in land, cash, and securities to OSU to support research and scholarships in agriculture and veterinary medicine. When he died, he left an additional $6.5 million to OSU for research that will help improve the economic well being of farmers and insure the world’s food supply. The Sitlington farm was located on what is now “Gulardia Golf and Country Club” in NW Oklahoma City.
This $6,000 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding full-time senior in plant and soil sciences.
DEADLINE: January 15.
